Update From Mom
Here are the results from the garage sale, and how our fund stands right now:
Total garage sale sales: $189.25 (way to go!)
Total dues paid to Date: $24.00 (remember, it is $2 per month per person, starting this month)
Total expenses: $43.34 (sash badges--"M"s, garage sale breakfast and snacks and poster board and dot labels)
TOTAL IN THE FUND AS OF 11/8/2010: $169.91
So, there is a little bit of money available for J.R. and Esther to start thinking about sashes and badges, and for Steven to work with while planning our activities. The dues will really help; that will add up quickly and allow us to think about fun dinners and things to do. I'm getting excited for our cabin week next summer!
Thanks for all your hard work on Saturday, and for coming to book club. Remember our next book is "The Life of Our Lord" by Charles Dickens, to be discussed here at our house on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

minutes from 10-03-2010
Hello all!
Here are the minutes from our troop meeting on Sunday October 3rd.
At this meeting we discovered the need to be patient and RAISE OUR HANDS.
We also found a desire for a family chant/song. I think Dad will help us on this one J
What’s more, we want to have an annual Troop 1981 picture with our sashes and all.
We discovered the idea of a ‘Book of Mormon’ patch, a ‘monthly dues’ patch, and a ‘who has the most baby’s’ patch.
-Treasurer, Sharon:
We are starting, in November to collect monthly dues. $2.00/month per person.
-Event Coordinators, Steven and Kristen:
Steven is our nominated “Cruise Director” He will be scheduling out our days, what activities we do that day, and so on… He has been in communication with our dear grandparents, and so far everything will work out for July 10-16, 2011. (The scheduling will have to wait until we firm up our activities closer to the trip)
-Web Master, Cheryl:
Cheryl and J.R are working on setting up a family website along with our blog, and calendar. If you have any questions call or e-mail her. Also, any family event, family photo, or anything you want to be shared with the family, e-mail it to her and she will get it posted.
-Uniform and Advancement, J.R. and Esther:
Under the uniform topic we suggested the possibilities of ORANGE sashes with our name, position, and merit badges we earn. We also discussed our want for a family crest patch, and an annual McLaws Family/ Troop 1981 Jamboree patch.
Steven suggested other articles of clothing such as a fishing hat and the want of “manly necklaces” (feathers and LARGE beads).
Under advancement we talked about having ranks. We first came up with military stars, but that evolved into animal ranks. Here are the animals we came up with. (Add any that would be relevant):
Sea monkey
Beta fish
Snake
Budgie
Hamster
Ferret
Iguana
Puppy
In order to get higher on the food chain, there are required badges and elective badges. J.R and Esther will decide what you need to complete to evolve. I think we came to a conclusion that to even become a sea monkey one needs to memorize and pass off the family chant!
We decided to hold an awards dinner after our trip and recognize everyone with their “special” talents, and badges they earned.
-Artist , Faith:
We are now open for business! Please send in your ideas and/or sketches to me for the family crest. Here are the ideas already thrown up in the air:
Hat looms
Bagpipes
Ferrets
This is all I have so far. Once I receive everyone’s input, I’ll squish them all together and make our fabulous family crest.
We have come up with two new committees:
Digital arts chair J.R
Fundraising Committee Faith and Julia
We will be holding our first semi-annual garage sale on Saturday November 6, 2010. We have already sent out an email to family members asking for donations. ALSO we have asked people to save their empty aluminum cans for us. Julia presented the idea that this will give a bit more spending money.
